a halloween to forget

picture’s up productions presents…

Director’s Statement

There isn’t a very emotionally significant story behind A Halloween to Forget. I just thought it would be funny.

The film is, by far, my most slapstick, containing some of my favorite visual gags in the entire Picture’s Up catalog. It was an attempt to recreate the cyclical, sketch comedy-esque structure that had previously brought some success in the form of the short film k., for which I had just wrapped up my biggest festival run to date.

Most of all, A Halloween to Forget is carried by its impressive comedic performances from a lineup of talented actors, whose talents overshadow my own in this production. I hope you enjoy.

trivia

  • Almost a tenth of the shots of Reece Moseley's banana suit actually make use of someone else being in the suit.

Director Sam Morgan explained in the behind-the-scenes video: "In total, Reece's character appears in 94 shots. In 85 of those shots, Reece is actually played by Reece. So that means 90.4% of the shots of Reece are actually played by Reece Moseley, while, 9.6% of them are played by me, Mandy, and Ellie. 4.3% me, 3.2% Mandy, and 2.1% Ellie."

  • Shooting called for blocking all exterior windows with trash bags and completely redecorating the living room.

  • Assistant Director Mandy Baker's niece was supposed to play the same role (making her character Pete's little sister), but she suffered from a sudden burst of stage fright. Director Sam Morgan called his friend, Emery Marsh, and asked if her little brother would like to make a cameo.
