Directors’ Statement
Having just finished working together on One Night in Squatchtown, we found ourselves missing the feeling of being on set. We were inspired by the All American High School Film Festival’s “Micro Movie” category; having just produced our longest film to date, we were excited by the idea of scaling things down and having our next project done relatively quickly.
In fact, “quick” became a key aspect of the production of is this ForReal?. In an attempt to challenge ourselves creatively, we began production at 10 A.M. on December 21st. Our final deadline for completion: 10 A.M. on December 22nd. 24 hours later.
We knew nothing other than the fact that we wanted to make a 1-minute film. The storyline, tone, and genre of the film were still up in the air when we began. We had several crew members present, several actors on standby, and about 100 bucks to spend. What could go wrong?

The final film, which was supposed to be no longer than 60 seconds, ended up having a runtime of about 1:23. For AAHSFF's Micro Movie category, the extra 23 seconds had to be cut. The same 60-second cut is the one that ended up being submitted to most film festivals, rather than its slightly longer counterpart.

Director Sam Morgan: "On our way back down after filming on top of the parking garage, we passed a guy in one of the Gainesville city cars that patrols the square looking for hooligans and delinquents and whatnot. We still don't know, but we're pretty sure he was on his way up to bust us. We're just too fast."

Director Sam Morgan: "We were editing until almost 6 in the morning, so the delirium was really starting to set in. That one frame of Elise smiling really creepily at the camera started to look like it was moving, even when we had Final Cut paused. Michael and I were genuinely getting freaked out."
